Sheri Hagen (she/her) is a German-Nigerian director, screenwriter and producer whose work stands for socially relevant storytelling and strong perspectives. Raised in Hamburg, she founded her production company Equality Film GmbH in 2015 to develop stories that focus on people who are often overlooked in film and television.
She made her directorial debut in 2007 with the children's short film STELLA UND DIE STÖRCHE, which was shown successfully at international festivals. This was followed in 2012 by her first feature film AUF DEN ZWEITEN BLICK, which was awarded the special prize EIN SCHREIBTISCH AM MEER at the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival and won an award at the KIRCHEN FILMFESTIVAL RECKLINGHAUSEN in 2013. The film was released in German cinemas in the same year.
In 2024, Sheri Hagen won the DIGITAL FEMALE LEADER EXCHANGE AWARD for her work with Equality Film. Sheri Hagen is a member of the EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY and a founding and board member of BLACK FILM CREATORS.
In addition to her work behind the camera, Sheri Hagen has appeared in numerous film, television and theater productions, including THE LIVES OF OTHERS and TATORT. These experiences in front of the camera still shape her perspective as a director today.
Whether touching, painful, humorous or thought-provoking - Sheri Hagen's films stand for creative cinema with attitude and heart.
