Roxana Samadi (she/her) was born in 2001 in Cologne and is an emerging director with a keen sense for social issues. Her debut film, FREEDOM AT HEART – LET US HURRY TO BE HUMAN, a self-produced documentary, powerfully explores themes of identity, resistance, and belonging. In 2024, the project premiered at the prestigious Filmfest Hamburg under the direction of Malika Rabahallah and won the Audience Award. In February and March 2025, Roxana Samadi will take her project on a cinema tour across Germany: **"Film creates a foundation for empathy. It is a way to connect and open a discourse in society, which is always a gain for democracy. In the case of Freedom at Heart, the documentary form is particularly compelling, as this moment in history has never existed in the Iranian diaspora before. The solidarity and tireless efforts that emerged were so extraordinary and inspiring that I felt compelled to capture them in that very moment. My goal was to stay as close as possible to the events and the people—to document what it feels like to support a revolution from afar, putting everything else aside to become an amplifier for the voices in Iran under the call Woman, Life, Freedom. This is what led me to make Freedom at Heart.
In addition to her work behind the camera, she gained early experience in film and television, and from now on she would also like to focus her creativity on telling and directing her own stories.
