Silke Eggert

Screenwriter

Writing is a calling: getting into the flow where a story almost writes itself is one of the most beautiful states I know. Writing is structure in which I can order, interpret and pass on my impressions, feelings, encounters and thoughts. Writing is a dream in which I can create worlds beyond our everyday perception. The depths of the human psyche never stop fascinating me, and I love diving deep into my characters and their relationships with one another. Inspiration is everywhere: a sentence I overhear in passing, an unfamiliar profession in a Japanese short story or a petrol can behind my chiropodist’s seat – anything can become a film!

About

Silke Eggert (she/her) was born and raised in the Rhineland and lives in Berlin.

Early on, she developed an interest in stories and social contexts, which she first pursued as a journalist. She wrote for the music magazine de:bug, among others, and worked for rbb’s political magazines “Kontraste” and “Klartext”. During a master’s degree in Communications in Auckland, New Zealand, she wrote her first screenplay – a moment that decisively shaped her career. From 2011 to 2017 she studied at the Screenwriting Academy of the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB), where she further sharpened her narrative profile. While still a student, she realised her first film projects, including the short film AKIO, co-produced with arte. Her graduation screenplay WASSER was nominated for the First Steps Award in 2017.

Silke Eggert is a versatile, multi-award-winning screenwriter with a particular flair for psychological drama, magical realism and dark comedy. In her work, she connects personal experience with social questions and develops multi-layered characters and emotional stories from them. Recently, she has also discovered children’s film for herself, where she especially enjoys combining humour with fantastical storytelling.

She co-wrote 303, which opened the Generation section of the 68th Berlinale in 2018 and won the DACHS Screenplay Award. Her screenplay for the feature film SMILE was produced as part of ZDF’s “Das kleine Fernsehspiel”. She is also the creator of the ARD mini-series NAKED, starring Svenja Jung, which deals with themes such as sex addiction and co-dependency and was nominated for the Grimme Prize in 2026.

Alongside her work as a writer, Silke Eggert also works as a freelance lecturer in creative writing and bodywork. She is a member of the German Screenwriters’ Association (DDV).
